Our little man turns two months old on the 18th! What?! How did this happen, wasn't it just yesterday that we brought our son home? But, indeed he is two months old and to commemorate this milestone Brandon moved the shoulder harness up in little man's car seat...he's not at the "newborn" setting anymore (sniff, sniff).
Later this week he will also have his two month well baby check up and sadly this is the one where he gets the first of his vaccinations. I can only imagine how heart breaking this will be for both Brandon and me...hopefully it won't be too traumatic.
Quite a lot has happened these two months. I experienced what it's like to be a single parent when Brandon went on two separate 10 day missions. All I can say is that I have a new-found respect for those ladies and gents who are raising kids on their own. I was VERY lucky in the fact that I had many friends/neighbors who came over to help me out and give my back a break.
The first mission, I'm not going to lie was really hard. Little man was four weeks old and I had been worrying about it since Brandon told me he would be going on it. There were many times where I broke down in tears and during his trip we found out our son had infant acid reflux. There were several nights where he would cry from one feeding to the next and usually this would happen between the midnight hours. But I got through it, again with help and the constant "atta girls" from Brandon helped, too. The second mission was so much easier. I think because little man was getting on a schedule and I knew what to do with him (think of Rachel from friends when she was holding Ross' son, "this IS how I hold a football.").
A new development within the past two weeks is that little man has begun to social smile (meaning he responds to us and our smiles with smiles of his own), he's "talking" up a storm-cooing and gurgling answers to our questions...even giving us full "sentences"! It's so rewarding to see that cute toothless smile looking back at us. Just when we think it can't get any better, our baby boy surprises us by throwing a new talent into the mix.
I think it's safe to say that we love our new positions as parents and our son is doing great. We're having a lot of fun with him. Especially now that he's smiling and cooing at us. It's true what all our friends/family have said 1) our lives have completely changed and 2) at two months it gets easier/better. I can't wait to see what else little man has to show us!
